Introduction
At long last, this is the final set of pics from this holiday. (Also available: part 1, part 2, and part 3.)
Wednesday morning
Somebody (Anne, I think) was visiting just for the day. Ian led a walk with her (and us) up to the Pepperpot.
The rain stopped as quickly as it had started, and we took a quick look at the cove.
Wednesday afternoon
After lunch, Ian led a longer walk out to Jenny Brown’s Point, but by a different route than last time.
Thursday
We set off early for a long circular walk, first taking a different route to Arnside.
Then we headed across the railway on a footpath that led to another tower building (which turned out to be less impressive) .
We walked along a long bridleway and a farm lane. Our plan was to enter a woodland area marked as a nature reserve. It turned out to be substantially harder to find an entrance than we had expected, and we had to walk quite a way around it on a road before finally getting into the woods.
After leaving the nature reserve, we decided to climb a nearby hill on the marked footpath.
We didn’t get a view from the top - there’s no break in the trees. Heading down the other side, we tried to find a pond that was marked on the map. But when we got there, it was significantly lacking in water - more of a clearing than a pond.
The last part of the walk back into Silverdale was on the path across Leighton Moss, which is a wetland area (once drained as farmland, but not since 1918) and an RSPB bird reserve.
The footpath we had planned to use to return to Silverdale was closed off, apparently because there’s a rail crossing where authorities are trying to remove the right of way. So we again had to walk along the road further than intended.
Walking across Silverdale, we passed another ‘well’ (which I think means we saw the full set).
Thursday evening
As it was the final day, we went for a last look at the cove.
