Introduction
After lunch in Olney, we took an afternoon walk around the area.
Olney
We started at Olney church and had a quick look inside, then took the footpath across common land by the River Great Ouse. In contrast to an earlier visit when we had found this area completely flooded, the river was only average rather than ‘great’ in size, remaining well within its channel. (To be fair, it isn’t particularly oozy either.)
Clifton Reynes
Across the river, we climbed uphill to the little church at Clifton Reynes.
Country roads
After seeing the church, we took a short detour to look at the nearby disused railway line. It’s now a farm track, not even a public footpath, and isn’t that interesting (although we did see a tractor drive down it).
We then headed downhill for a few kilometres along the lane toward Emberton.
Passing through Emberton, we then took footpaths through farmland toward the lakes of Emberton Country Park.
We completed the circle by walking around the lakes and then back to the main road into Olney.
