Introduction
We went to Paignton in Devon for another English seaside holiday.
Saturday
Saturday started rainy, but brightened up later on, so we played on the beach as well as wandering around.
Sunday
In the morning, Adam and I went for a walk. On the way back, it rained rather a lot.
Monday
On Monday we went to Paignton Zoo! The zoo was fun (and they had a lion who occasionally roared really loudly) but I didn't take photos there. Later we discovered Fairy Cove, a small beach very near our holiday home.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we took the ferry to Brixham. It sounds very similar to Brixton, but turned out to have a slightly different vibe.
We walked out to the lighthouse at Berry Head, which is the highest and also shortest lighthouse in Devon.
On top of Berry Head is an old fort which was used at various times, as well as the coastguard station and lighthouse.
We walked the other side of the headland back to Brixham, because we totally had plenty of time to catch the ferry back.
After missing the ferry, we didn’t have too long to wait for a bus back.
Later that evening, I popped out to take a few night photos.
Wednesday
Paignton has a steam train, and river ferry, to Dartmouth. Unlike most other steam railways which are run by volunteers, this is a commercial operation, but it’s pretty good.
After the steam train to Kingswear (across the river from Dartmouth), you then get a passenger ferry over the river to Dartmouth.
The first thing we saw was Bayard’s Cove fort by the river.
We left the fort and looked around the rest of Dartmouth.
We were following a puzzle-guidebook around the town, which was quite fun, and also saw the local museum which has a full-size beam engine in. Towards the end of the afternoon, we took the ferry back for our return train.
That evening we took a short walk out near the house in the sunlight.
