I cannot make new themes...even when I download the stars theme it comes zipped. I rename it stars.leafChatTheme and put it in the theme folder and it does not show up

I guess my question is as follows.
How do I change the file type from "zipped" to "leafChatTheme"?

Simply renaming the file does not work for leafChat ver 2.0

Any suggestions would be great

It shouldn't be zipped (well, it is technically zipped, but it shouldn't be named .zip). I think your browser must have done something to it. I just checked the download and it does work for me. Here's the link again, to make sure you're using the right one:

http://www.leafdigital.com/software/leafchat/themes/stars.leafChatTheme

If your browser saves that as .zip, try using a different browser (i.e. use Firefox if you normally use Internet Explorer, or vice versa.)

Hopefully that helps?

Once you get the theme working, you can then rename it to zip and look at the files inside etc. But the theme should definitely download as .leafChatTheme.

BTW sorry for late reply - I don't check this forum as often as I should (I know, I need to add email notification to the forum, just haven't got around to it yet).

Okay the stars theme now works when I downloaded with firefox...but my main problem still exists.

I made my own theme...renamed it Mytheme.leafChatTheme but it still looked like a zip file and leaf chat did not recognize it

So really when making my own theme...is there a step left out that actually converts themes to leafChat files?...cause simpy renaming it is not enough

It does not show up in my options menu
Thank for your help :)

I'm just guessing here, so I could be wrong... Take this with a grain of salt.

Windows is probably hiding the .zip extension for you, and even if you rename the file name as Mytheme.leafChatTheme, in actuality it's Mytheme.leafChatTheme.zip but Windows is just not showing the .zip. But that's why it's showing it still as a zip file.

I don't actually know how to change the file extension under Windows, it doesn't like "changing file type" which is essentially what you need to do. Maybe if you enable showing file extensions then it can be changed. Otherwise you need a more powerful tool than the Windows Explorer to rename the file, something which will let you change the extension too.

Yes this is probably the correct solution (thanks for answering).

In an Explorer (folder) window, on the View menu (or is it Tools) there is an 'Options...' - choose that and you get a bunch of options including 'Hide extensions for known filetypes' - turn that off.

(If you are using Windows Vista instead of XP you have to like press Alt key once, or something, to make the menu bar even appear to begin with. Like most things in Vista, they made it slightly harder to use...)

You can then rename files in the normal way (click on the name, type in the new one). Windows will warn you that you're changing the filetype but it lets you do it.

It looks like I may need to include information about this in with the theme instructions for next release, obviously they aren't clear enough.
